Pikala Foundation

The Pikala Foundation teaches young women in Morocco to ride bicycles and become mechanics. Their work helps break down traditional barriers and creates new opportunities for women in cycling.

Our partnership

Our partnership with the Pikala Foundation began in 2019 when Saha Founder Cassandra Broadwin connected with the organization during her Peace Corps service. The name "Pikala" means bicycle in Moroccan Arabic. Working alongside the Pikala Foundation team, she co-led bike handling and road safety workshops for her female students from rural villages.

Today, Saha proudly sponsors the Pikala Foundation's "Girls on Tour" event —  an inspiring 200 kilometer, 4-day bikepacking trip from El Jadida to Rabat. This trip gives young women the opportunity to build confidence, step out of their comfort zone, and break the glass ceiling.

Impact

  • 650 women have learned to ride
  • 23,000 children have received cycling and road safety education
  • 400,000 people have participated in city-wide cycling events
